Taking Huge Leaps!

Yes, yes I am. Into what? I hear you cry! Into the world of submissions, is where! This post is late because I have spent most of Monday trawling through the world of the interwebs (and maybe playing Monopoloy Streets) to find sites where I could possibly submit my work – I found quite a few! I’ve written a couple of pieces of ‘creative nonfiction’ and some poetry, which I hope to be submitting over the next few days! I’m absolutely terrified, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that all will go well and I’ll have a few links for you guys!

Moving on, writing is going relatively well despite a few distractions – the biggest one being reuniting with my mother after almost seven years, that was something! My WIP500 count is steadily rising, and I am slowly gaining a little more confidence in my writing.

Now onto more pressing matters!

The #DearValentine challenge is almost over, but fear not! I shall have something for you for March – I promise. In the meantime though, I suggest you scoot on over the amazing Rebecca Clare Smith’s blog and read about her new weekly drabble contest! If you’ve taken part in #TuesdayTales or #MenageMonday, you’ll love #SatSunTails – it’s a fantastic thing to take part in, I promise!

Well, that’s all from me folks – I hope that your writing is going well! Tell me how you’re getting on?

#DearValentine: Episode Three

A Fairground Surprise

A simple note upon a pink box had awaited Linda at the top of the tower.

‘Take the car, follow the GPS. I’ve missed you darling’

The box contained a set of keys that unlocked a black Mercedes convertible. Linda didn’t bother to question any of this, if it truly was Sian then Linda was used to her elaborate schemes. Linda eventually brought the car to a stop at a chain link fence. Hopping nimbly over the chain she walked towards what had once been a place of joy and laughter. In the centre of the rusted and broken pieces of metal sat a carousel.

Sian had heard Linda before she saw her. She was excited, and a little apprehensive about the meeting too. It had only been a month since she and Linda had last spoken, but it suddenly felt like an age. She smoothed her hair, and glanced at her reflection on the mirired carousel. Yes, the white backless tuxedo did bring out her features rather well. The gun in her hand set it all off perfectly.

Linda spotted the gun first, and instinctively reached for her own before remembering she had left it in her desk drawer at home. The smile on Sian’s face did little to ease her apprehension. “Sian, what’s going on darling? Why are we here?” She tried to keep her voice level, the gun was now pointing straight at her, and every step she took forward gave Sian a cleaner shot.

Linda had slipped into her cop routine, Sian laughed gaily, “Linda, my darling, nothing’s wrong. I just wanted to make sure you came alone, like I asked you to.” She took a few steps forward, her Jimmy Choos clacking on the old metal of the carousel. She wrapped her arms around Linda’s neck and kissed her passionately.

#DearValentine: Episode Two

An Unromantic Getaway

DI Linda Hughes was in charge of the latest investigation. The body was that of a young male, possibly in his thirties, whose ID confirmed him as Kieran Blake. His face was unrecognisable, and the pick axe used to murder him was still embedded in his skull when she had arrived at the docks. Linda stared at the report on her desk, she had known Kieran and his girlfriend well.. It was obvious that this was a murder carried out by someone who knew him well, and Linda dreaded to the think that her best friend of ten years could be the one responsible. Of course, she knew it to be true, after all Sian had suddenly disappeared. She read over the case file one last time before turning off her desk lamp and heading home.

Linda sat back on the leather couch in her spacious flat and gingerly opened the box that had been sitting outside her front door. She recognised the handwriting, and she dreaded seeing what was inside. After ten minutes of deliberating, she pulled off the lid to be faced with a box of her favourite chocolates and a plane ticket for Paris. She knew who it was from, and though she detested the thought of what she was about to do, she set off for the airport.

Arriving at Charles De Gaulle airport she was greeted by a young man carrying a plaque with her name on it. He led her to a sleek black Bentley, and without a word drove her straight to the Eiffel Tower. He opened the door, and with a slightly clipped French accent bade her to take the lift to the top. Knowing exactly what awaited her at the top, she hesitated for a single moment before striding away.

#DearValentine – Episode 1

“Never. Cheat. On. Me”

The photographs weren’t a surprise really, she had known for months that he was cheating on her. It was the note she’d found that really pissed Sian off. How dare he speak about her like that to this floozy? She had done everything for him, gotten him to where he was today – with his high flying job, perfect physique and fancy car. Sian had paid for everything. And now it was time for him to pay her back.

Keiran read the note, twice. Sian wanted to do something ‘special’ for Valentine’s day. He had no idea why, after ten years of not doing anything, she wanted to do something this year. He shrugged, best just to go along with it. He would wear her favourite aftershave, and even get a haircut, and meet her at the docks where they’d first set eyes on eachother – and he’d had eyes only for her yacht.

Sian absently raked a perfectly manicured fingernail across the faint vein in her wrist. Kieran was late, though she hadn’t expected any less. He was probably trying to placate that whore of his. Sian had the photographs, pasted along the walls of the abandoned warehouse, and the video of them was playing silently on the old projector. She was quite pleased by the eerie atmosphere it lent to the already creepy warehouse.

Kieran checked his watch again, Sian wouldn’t be pleased, but it wasn’t his fault the car had been clamped. He’s stopped at Bevaerbrooks to buy her something nice, and that damn traffic warden pounced. Finally he spotted the dock where Sian’s yacht had once been moored.

Sian greeted Kieran with a lingering kiss, and with a smile bordering on psychopathic she stabbed him over and over with the ice pick, screaming.

“Never. Cheat. On. Me!”

Writing, writing, and a little more…

Hallo my lovelies!

How are we all? Good, I hope! I’m doing rather well.

Would you like an update? Of course you would! (And you’re getting it, even if you don’t!)

If you’re on Twitter, and following me, you’ve probably seen the #WIP500 tag floating around in a lot of my tweets. It’s going good! I haven’t written as much on the WIP as I would like, but honestly I haven’t been in the right frame of mind for it. I have however been writing lots of poetry and mini fiction (which I owe you one, I will do a double post on Friday!) over on my Tumblr. Feel free to go and check it out, and leave a comment using the Disqus form.

It was also the second day of the Creative Writing at The Art Stop, which was great fun. It’s always nice to get out of your own headspace for a while, and hear what others are up to. Wrote a couple of fun pieces there, which are now on my Tumblr!

And last, but by no means least, my February blog challenge – #DearValentine – starts on Saturday! You can sign up here, if you haven’t already.

So tell me about you, how are you getting on with your writing?
